Islands Coron

The Calamian archipelago is a group of islands in the Philippine province of Palawan, collectively known as the Calamian islands or simply Coron islands. Coron is also the name of the largest town and major center on the island of Busuanga, and the name of an island just offshore.

Traditionally, fishing used to be the major economic activity in Coron, but now tourism takes the top spot, thanks to its pristine beaches, unique dive sites, and other nature-oriented activities.

Scuba diving and snorkeling are maybe what Coron is the most famous for, as the entire archipelago holds some of the most popular scuba diving sites in the world. In 1944 a dozen Japanese WWII ships were sunk in the area, and they now lie at depths between 10 and 40 meters, many of them are still intact. Adventurous divers are also attracted to Coron’s rich marine life and spectacular coral reefs.

Coron can be reached easily by plane, as there are several flights every day from Manila to Busuanga Airport, and the flight usually takes from forty minutes to one hour. Land trip by a bus from Busuanga Airport to Coron town takes 30 to 45 minutes.

Perhaps the best way to experience everything Coron has to offer is island hopping, a popular tourist activity which makes it possible to visit many beautiful islands in Coron and enjoy their uniqueness and beauty.
