Coron Town is a municipality in The Palawan Province of the Philippines. The town of Coron consists of the whole Eastern side of the Busuanga Island, which is the largest island in the Calamian group of islands that separates the South China Sea from the Sulu Sea. Coron town also comprises of the Island known famously as the Coron Island, and about 50 other minor islets all of which fall on the way to the Canipo Island in the south and the Tara Island in the north-west of Northern Palawan. The eastern side of the Calamian Islands belongs to the municipality of Coron town, whereas the western side of it belongs to the municipality of Busuanga. Busuanga is a sanctuary for those who love to dive and indulge in the wonders below the sea, whereas Coron is a world on its own for those who love to hike and enjoy the beauty of the nature above the grounds.
Coron is divided into 23 divisions or “barangayas”. Barangayas are large communities consisting of 4000-15,000 inhabitants in each. The whole of Coron town today has a population of 42,491 with a density of 62/km2, according the census recorded in the year 2010. The economy is kept up mainly by the industries of fishing and tourism in the town, which, given the beautiful bodies of water all around and the magnificent natural cliffs and shores of the town, is quite obvious for anyone to understand.
